Carli Roush

About Carli

I grew up on a small farm in Kentucky, where I enjoyed riding horses and bottle-feeding calves. I received my B.S. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from Yale University in 2022. At Yale, I was a member of the Paul Turner Lab, studying evolutionary trade-offs between antibiotic resistance and bacteriophage resistance in E. coli. I began at Georgia Tech in the Fall of 2022. When I’m not in the lab, I enjoy knitting, crocheting, sewing, and making music!

Research Interests

I am interested in all things bacteriophage! In the Whiteley Lab, I am aiming to find, classify, and modify bacteriophages that infect the oral bacteria Porphyromonas gingivalis (Pg). Pg has been implicated not only in periodontal disease, but in dementia, Alzheimer’s Disease, and heart disease. Therefore, it is a potential candidate for treatment using phage therapy. However, not much is currently understood about phages that infect Pg; I am seeking to fill that gap.
