About Emma
I grew up in Calhoun, Georgia. I completed my first two years of undergrad at Kennesaw State University before transferring here to Georgia Tech, where I received my BS in biochemistry. I joined the Whiteley Lab as a research technician in January 2022 and stayed on for my PhD. In my free time I enjoy sewing, creating digital art, and playing my favorite video game: Microsoft Excel.

Research Interests
The oral cavity regularly experiences abiotic and biotic disturbances through diet, environmental changes, and exposure to microbes from the environment that transiently colonize the oral cavity. To investigate how specialists survive in diverse, dynamic environments, I study how the highly-specialized oral pathogen Porphyromonas gingivalis interacts with both oral and nonoral microbes.
